Exporting Madeira wine the old way in barrels. The wine barrels, only half full were floated out to the ships anchored offshore in the bays of the island. The barrels would be topped up on the ships and off to the rest of the world. Quite where this Madeira wine is off to we are not sure. It is a lot easier now just to buy a bottle on the island at the lodges or airport.The tiled fresco’s are quite common on the island.
