Funchal and a flying boat
Before the airport you arrived by ship or in the 1950’s flying boats flew down to Funchal. Disembarkation was by rowing boat.

This Flying boat appears to be older and attracting considerable interest…a picture from the 1930’s perhaps.

19th Transport by Hammock in Madeira, this was used for uphill journeys, sledges being used for downhill journeys.
